North Adams’ Collaborative Solution to Litter

A cleaner community takes all of us.

In collaboration with the North Adams City Council and Pick Up Massachusetts, North Adams retailers have installed special bins around our stores for customers to dispose of mini liquor bottles only

At a City Council meeting earlier this fall, Chief Bailey recommended that the City Council take action to limit irresponsible disposal and consumption of mini liquor bottles. While litter is made up of many items, us package retailers want to ensure our products are consumed and disposed of properly.

The goal of this collaborative program is to create a cleaner community without harming small businesses or infringing on consumer choice, but we need your help. To keep our community clean, please dispose of your empties in one of the many labeled bins around the package stores. We will take it from there!

Take the pledge and help us make a cleaner and safer North Adams!

Thanks for adding your name to do something!

Now please help spread the word:

North Adams’ Pilot Program

A collaborative solution:

Rather than taking actions that might harm local retailers and small businesses, retailers and city leaders are working together to develop a mini-bottle collection program, which places specialty bins around town for proper mini-bottle disposal.

Through a partnership with statewide organization Pick Up Massachusetts, we purchased and installed these bins around our stores and lots to promote the proper disposal of mini bottles. This collaborative and business-friendly solution allows continued consumer choice while keeping our streets clean and safe.

Other ways to keep North Adams clean and safe:
To keep North Adams looking its best will take all of us. Below are a few additional ways you can help out.

Don’t litter

Keeping our shared spaces clean helps protect our environment and our health. Whether it’s a mini bottle, an empty chip bag, or a fast-food wrapper, it’s always helpful to hang onto items until you can throw them away or recycle them properly. Small choices like this make a big difference for our communities.

Participate in a clean-up

There are many ways we can work together to keep our community safe and clean. One great option is joining a community litter cleanup. Feel free to ask store staff about any upcoming cleanups or how to organize your own!

Be responsible

Many see mini liquor bottles as an important tool for portion control. Responsible consumption is an important component of keeping our community safe. It’s important to know how much you are consuming and to never operate a vehicle or machinery under the influence of alcohol.
